Remember Us To Life

Regina Spektor is officially back and I couldn’t be happier!

It has been four years since the singer-songwriter released What We Saw From the Cheap Seats and much to my dismay she hasn’t graced one of London’s stages in what feels like forever!

Now we have an album and tour to look forward to!kubo1

Spektor is playing one of my favourite venues, the Southbank’s Royal Festival Hall on 14th and 15th November (there are still tickets for the 15th available here!), and Remember Us To Life is released September 30th.

Plus not only has the album’s opening track Bleeding Heart been released, but so has a beautiful cover of The Beatles’ While My Guitar Gently Weeps which is featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming  film Kubo and the Two Strings – both available to listen on Spotify now!

To celebrate, here are a selection of my favourite Regina songs including her new single:

Never mind your bleeding heart

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God when they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

If I kiss you where it’s sore
Will you feel better, better, better
Will you feel anything at all

This is how it works
You’re young until you’re not
You love until you don’t
You try until you can’t
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath

I’m the hero of the story
Don’t need to be saved

And finally a combination of my favourite piano players of all time:

I wanna ask you –
Do you ever sit and wonder,
It’s so strange
That we could be together for
So long, and never know, never care
What goes on in the other one’s head?

First Dance

Tom Odell - Wrong Crowd

This week Tom Odell’s long awaited new album Wrong Crowd launched and it got me thinking to the many songs he has written/covered that would make perfect first dances…

  1. Grow Old With Me

Grow old with me
Let us share what we see
And oh the best it could be
Just you and I

2. Till I Lost – this will forever be one of my favourite Tom Odell songs (though maybe a little sad for a first dance)

Just wandering town with you…Would be enough

3. Real Love (The Beatles cover)

It’s real love

4. Video Games (Lana Del Rey cover) – Tom Odell sang this for Fearne Cotton and Jesse Wood’s wedding

It’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you

FYI I love Tom Odell…

First Dance

Penny & The Quarters are a “lost” soul band which came to prominence in 2010 after an unreleased demo of their song “You And Me” was used in the film Blue Valentine. Despite the sad context of the film, the song is incredible and perfect for a first dance.

If you love a soul more than fame and gold, and that soul feels the same about you,
It’s a natural fact, there’s no turning back, and here’s some advice to you:
You’ve got to say it’s, You and me.

The First Dance

Every time I read about a recent wedding, the second thing I do (after checking out the brides beautiful gown of course), is find out what song the couple chose to share their first dance. Music is so important and personal to every couple, and the song chosen will forever be THE song that will make you smile and think of each other.

I’m building the ultimate first dance playlist and will gradually post my choices.

Today’s choice:

Bright Eyes – First Day Of My Life
